The Multi Award Winning Eco Garden in Worsley

Worsley, Manchester

It’s always wonderful to revisit a garden that you have designed and created within its first year to find it brimful of colour, texture, and, most of all, wildlife. This garden design project in Worsley, Salford started life barely bigger than a postage stamp-sized garden. The fundamental design principles behind it and the design brief set by my client was to create a low-maintenance space – however, not within the rigid disciplines of a traditional context but more outward-looking and European in its aesthetic. Another requirement was that the designs for the garden would display a strong architectural context as well as provide a haven for insects that could coexist in harmony with humans. A big part of my vision in setting out to design this garden was to truly connect the inside and outside spaces whilst keeping the garden distinct from the living room, ultimately creating a sense of being immersed in the garden even when seated inside. To achieve this I deliberately chose to not follow the typical and traditional fashion of extending the inside out, but instead, create an outside space of nature that flows from the inside in a way that feels complementary.
